I am delighted to announce that it is Rack’s intention to ‘re-open’ on Monday 4th May for ‘business as usual’.
Since ceasing production of office furniture products on Friday 3rd April in order to concentrate on the production of hospital beds, Rack has produced 3500 beds.
This has been a herculean team undertaking of which I am extremely proud, and my gratitude goes out to Rack’s entire workforce who, without exception, have stepped up and played their part at this time of national crisis.
However, I am delighted to have been recently advised (by people close to the heart of NHS procurement) that demand for emergency hospital beds is now expected to be at the lower end of the initial forecasts, and hence, orders have slowed as social distancing measures take effect.
In addition to this, and whilst cognisant that the lockdown has only just been extended, Rack’s directors are firmly of the opinion that the government will start to ease lockdown measures week commencing 11th May and that Rack should plan accordingly.
I am therefore pleased to confirm that, following fulfilment of Rack’s last order for hospital beds on Friday 24th April, the factory will be re-configured through W/C 27th April and gradually turned back over to the production of office furniture; with ‘full service’ being resumed the following week.
Consequently, if you have any queries about the status of orders placed prior to the lockdown, or new orders that you wish to discuss/place, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

COVID-19 UPDATE from Rack Systems

Following a collapse in orders for office furniture components, it is no longer financially viable for Rack to remain open. Consequently, as of 5:00pm tonight Rack will progressively cease production of all office furniture related products and dedicate the company’s entire productive capacity to the manufacture of hospital beds required by the NHS for the emergency treatment of Covid-19 patients.
All outstanding orders scheduled for delivery next week will be completed and delivered as planned, however, thereafter the factory will be ‘closed’ until Monday 20th April, whereupon the directors will review the situation.
During this time all office staff will be redirected to other duties and the offices will effectively be shut. The three directors will be available on their mobiles and contactable by email, however, I would ask that you only contact us if your enquiry is absolutely ‘essential’, or to keep us updated us as to the status of your business.
The decision to ‘close’ the factory has not been taken lightly and we understand the implications this will potentially have on our customers businesses, however, in light of the national crisis posed by Covid 19 we would ask for your and understanding and forbearance at this time.

New SALVAGNINI P2lean Panel Bender

To enhance Rack’s sheet metal working capabilities and capacity, and in line with Rack’s policy of continuous investment, Rack is pleased to announce it has taken delivery of Salvagnini P2 Lean panel bender.
​
This compact automated panel bender configures tooling and manipulates components automatically, thus greatly reducing setup times and improving overall productivity. The P2Lean also increases both the complexity and range of bend profiles Rack can now produce, thereby substantially expanding the design possibilities for future products.
​
Long coveted by Rack’s MD, ever since he first saw one 25 years ago, the Salvagnini’s arrival and commissioning represents the passing of another major milestone for the company.

More good news.
Following Rack’s recent inclusion in the London Stock Exchange’s publication ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain 2019’, Rack has now been notified that it has also achieved a respectable 85th place in the ‘Growth 100 Awards 2019’ for the Yorkshire region.......not bad for a company wholly dedicated to making desk legs !!
The senior management would like to thank all of Rack’s customers and suppliers for their custom and support over the years and without whom growth would have been impossible, however, they would particularly like to say an especially big thank you to everyone who works at Rack. It is their hard work and dedication that is being acknowledged in these reports and awards....... guys you should be very proud of yourselves.

1000 Companies to Inspire Britain 2019
We are delighted to announce that Rack has been included in the publication ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain 2019’.
Produced by The London Stock Exchange Group the report highlights and celebrates the importance of independent SME’s to the British economy and goes on to name the top performing companies within their Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Groupings.
To qualify companies must be registered and active within the UK and have revenues of between £6m - £250m. Investment vehicles and funds are excluded. Financial performance is based upon average annual turnover growth rates calculated over a three year period (based on four sets of accounts), with the calculations weighted to favour latest-year growth. Eligible companies are then separated into their SIC groupings and ranked to identify those companies that have most outperformed their sector averages.
Rack is delighted to have been included within this prestigious report and the senior management would like to thank everyone at Rack for their hard work and commitment over many years. It is their collective efforts and dedication that got Rack to where it is today. A big thank you to all concerned.

New Morbidelli CNC Delivered

To keep up with demand for Rack’s screening products and enhance Rack’s overall wooden panel machining capabilities, Rack is delighted to announce it has taken delivery of a second SCM/Morbidelli M100 5 axis CNC machine.
​
This second machine doubles Rack’s panel processing capacity and thereby ensures that growing demand does not adversely affect Rack’s screen production lead times.

Rack's Founder and Chairman Passes Away
​
Rack is very sad to announce the death of its founder and chairman Derek Field.
Derek founded Rack Systems Ltd in his mid fifties, following his retirement from the computer industry, and remained involved right up until shortly before his death from cancer on 23rd June 2018.
Under Derek’s stewardship Rack grew from a struggling start-up into a successful multi-million pound enterprise employing over 100 people.
Derek was intensely proud of his creation and mindful of his responsibilities and his business ethos and values continue to under-pin everything the management team does.

2nd Powder Plant Commissioned

After ‘years’ of planning and months of building work and disruption Rack is pleased to announce that it’s second online powder coating plant is now finally installed and fully operational. The new plant immediately doubles Rack’s powder coating capacity and increases flexibility with regards to colour changes and customer choice.

New machinery being installed
​
The installation of new machinery has begun. The addition of a second Trumpf tube laser and Amada flat-bed laser with tower loading system will greatly enhance Rack’s overall capacity and once commissioned will allow Rack to decommission and move its other key pieces of machinery without adversely affecting production. The machinery moving process is scheduled to be concluded by Christmas at which point Rack’s new factory is anticipated to be fully operational.

New factory handover!

Rack is pleased to announce that its’ new factory was officially handed over by the builder (Transcore) on time and on budget. This latest 25,000 sq ft addition paves the way for a host of new machines to be delivered, secures Rack’s future growth plans and means Rack’s factory complex now totals over 60,000 sq ft.
